Joe Carothers, In Memoriam

Land Exchange Abstract & Title proudly honors the legacy of our founder, Joe Hal Carothers, who passed away on August 11, 2024. For more than 50 years, Joe served Central Texas with integrity, hard work, and deep respect for his customers and employees.

Born in Big Spring, Texas and raised in Coryell County, Joe’s drive was evident early—first as an athlete at Gatesville High School, then as a student at TCU, Tarleton State, and Baylor Law School. After earning his Juris Doctorate in 1972, he opened his law practice and founded Land Exchange Abstract & Title, expanding into Killeen in 1981.

A visionary leader, Joe valued his relationships with Realtors, homebuilders, and families, and led his team with genuine appreciation. His influence reached beyond the title industry through his work as a homebuilder, land developer, and community servant.

Outside the office, Joe was an avid outdoorsman, horseman, lifelong learner, and published poet. His love for ranch life, history, and family shaped the joyful spirit he brought to all he did.

Joe’s legacy continues through the company he built and the values he instilled. We remain committed to honoring his vision and serving our community with the same dedication he exemplified.

Land Exchange Abstract & Title Co. provides Abstracting, Closing and Title Insurance services to buyers, sellers, realtors, mortgage lenders and builders in Texas. We are locally owned and operated providing both commercial and residential services.

Currently there are two Texas locations with offices in Copperas Cove and Killeen serving the counties of Bell, Coryell, and Lampasas.
